1. What kind of books does Chaukhambha Orientalia publish?
We specialize in publishing scholarly and original works in Ayurveda, Yoga, and traditional medical sciences. This includes original research, commentaries, translations, reference works, manuals, and educational textbooks. Our work has also expanded to general Ayurveda books that can be read by anyone, even with no formal introduction to Ayurveda.  

2. Who can submit a manuscript for publication?
We accept submissions from academicians, researchers, practitioners, postgraduate students, and traditional scholars. Co-authored works and edited volumes are welcome. To submit your manuscript, navigate to the ‘Publish with Chaukhambha’ menu and select ‘Submit Manuscript for Evaluation’.

✍️ Before You Submit

3. Do I need to finish the entire manuscript before approaching you?
Not necessarily. A detailed book proposal with sample chapters, index, and a clear concept note is sufficient to start the evaluation.

4. Will Chaukhambha Orientalia help in assessing if my idea is worth turning into a book?
Yes. We have an internal evaluation system that reviews your proposal’s originality, relevance, and content quality. Feedback will be provided accordingly.

📑 The Publishing Process

5. What happens after I submit my manuscript or proposal?
It goes through a structured internal review. Based on a multi-criteria evaluation (accuracy, clarity, audience fit, etc.), we will share our decision and suggest revisions if needed. We also assess the expectations from the publisher in terms of editing, image rework, and Author timelines. Any decision, whether of acceptance or rejection, is clearly communicated to the Author on priority.

6. Will my manuscript be peer-reviewed?
Yes, but only selected works undergo peer review by subject experts to ensure academic and textual integrity. Most works are reviewed by our internal teams. 

7. Will you edit and format the manuscript?
We provide typesetting, and formatting for the textual portions. For images, our designers can rework the images provided by you for high quality finish and clean look in the book. However, manuscripts should be grammatically sound and well-structured at the time of submission. We will not make any grammatical or textual alterations to the manuscript without the Author’s consent. 

📦 Production and Distribution

8. How long does it take to publish a book?
The timeline varies based on the complexity of the book. On average, accepted manuscripts take 4–8 months to publish after approval. The time may vary based on factors such as page count, subject of the manuscript, number of corrections, form of submission (handwritten or typed), etc. Final timelines are discussed once the complete book is submitted to the Publisher for processing. 

9. In what formats will my book be available?
Books are published in high-quality paperback/hardcover print. Select titles are also digitized as eBooks (PDF/ePub) for online sale through Amazon as well as institutional access to college across the world.

10. How will my book be marketed and distributed by Chaukhambha Orientalia?
Our marketing and distribution policies have been perfected over a long time. We will make your book available for purchase on all major e-Commerce platforms like Amazon, and also through our own website. We offer express domestic shipping through DTDC Courier service, and also worldwide delivery service through DHL Logistics. Our distribution channel are India-wide with hundreds of booksellers and eCommerce partnerships. We also offer eBooks for individual users through Amazon Kindle, as well as institutional access of eBooks through our Digital library service. The book is given amazing exposure by our teams working tirelessly to ensure your book is not just another ISBN.

💰 Payment Terms

11. Will I have to pay anything to publish my book?
Chaukhambha Orientalia does not take any money from the Author to publish their book. We have a strict moral code as a Publishing House and not a vanity press. Our books are always chosen on merit. We pay the Authors for their effort and hard work in the form of either Royalties on net sales or lump-sum one-time amount. 

12. Who retains the copyright of the book?
Unless agreed otherwise, the author retains copyright. We hold exclusive worldwide publishing and distribution rights.

🛡️ Legal and Ethical Policies

13. How is the Author bound to the Publisher?
Before submission of the book, the Publisher and Author will sign a mutually agreed upon Pre-Print Agreement. This agreement outlines the moral, ethical, legal and financial code of conduct that binds the Author and the Publisher. Our agreement is designed to ensure no Author is treated unjustly and that the Publisher cannot misuse the content and manuscript of the Author. Similarly, the agreement also protects the Publisher from any negligence or wrongful intent by the Author.

14. Do you check for plagiarism?
Absolutely. All manuscripts are reviewed for originality. Plagiarized or misappropriated content will result in immediate rejection. However, with the onset of AI, it has become a challenge for all Publishers to assess the originality of the manuscript submitted. Hence, we have a strict policy that if any claim of infringement by a third-party arises post-publishing, the Author must compensate the Publisher for all publishing related expenses.

15. What data do you collect and how is it used?
We collect only essential personal and manuscript-related data, processed in accordance with India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDPA). Your data is never shared with third parties without consent.
