The subject is arranged in a format that would be appealing for the students studying preventive medicine in Ayurveda. The arrangement of chapters is according to the current syllabus stipulated for the BAMS course. Hopefully, students of MD(Ay) in Svasthavritta and Yoga too will be benefited from this book. Apart from Brihattrayis and Laghutrayis, other ancient works like Muhμurta Martånda and Manusmrti have also been consulted for collecting the relevant references. Commentaries of Chakrapani and Dalhana have been given wherever found necessary. The major aim of this book has been to analyze Åyurvedic and modern aspects in a comparative manner. For example, various food articles described in Åyurveda are explained along with their botanical names, properties, and nutritive values, which may be used as a ready- reckoner while designing the diet based on Åyurvedic principles. Communicable diseases have been concisely dealt with in the form of tables along with Åyurvedic correlations. Chapters on Yoga include references from Patanjali’s Yoga Sutra, Hathayoga Pradipika, and Ghera Samhita. Along with the description of practical methods of Yogic practices, associated physiological changes and indications have also been narrated. Principles of naturopathy, different modes of treatments, indications, methods of application, and nature-cure diet are dealt with in detail. Aspects of primary health care, national programs, health administration, and the role of Åyurveda in the present-day healthcare system are explained briefly with the help of flow charts.
