The text “Vaidyamanorama and Dharakalpa” is a treasure of Ayurveda literature authored by Vaidyavara KÃ¥lidÃ¥sa in 13th century AD. Kaviraja Sukhadeva Vaidya Vacaspati has written a commentary named
“Sukhabodhini” and he added Dharakalpa to this text. This treatise contains 20 chapters and each chapter is called “Patala”. The uniqueness of the text is, it includes all three modes of treatment viz. Daiva Vyapasraya, Yuktivyapasraya and Satvavajaya Chikitsa. Diseases of eight branches of Ayurveda are also explained along with treatment. Adding to this, simple, cost-effective, time tested, fewer components, and multi-functional formulations
are explained in this text. In the present work, the effort has been made to translate this text into English. During
translation, much more importance has been given to simplification, clarification, specification, and analysis techniques. Edition and translation work was done under three phases. In the first phase, basics related to understanding the text viz. fundamentals of pharmaceutics, description about text and meaning of technical terms are given whereas the second phase deals with text proper. The third phase deals with the information, essential to under stand the text viz. information about new drugs (Herbal and mineral), Mi‹raka varga, Dose and so on.
In total, this work of edited and translated textbook of “Vaidyamanorama Evam Dharakalpa” is a sincere effort of the authors which will save the treasure of knowledge of Ancient Indian Medical Heritage. This work definitely enriches the knowledge of all readers, students, physicians and research scholars of Ayurveda fraternity.
